Yesterday we had a wonderful day out in Paris. We slept in because we were so tired from the day before and then we headed straight to Cafe Madeleine, which is just in front of Église de la Madeleine, and had brunch. Honestly we could’ve had better. It was good but it was simple stuff, not the kind we have had before in other places. We had eggs and bacon and croissants and bread, accompanied with the tiniest pot of jam and the tiniest bar of butter, two orange juices and a café au lait and a hot chocolate…for way too much money. Yeah, I know I can see Madeleine’s church, but still, did not convince me. Still it was a good day start.
We then walked around a lot. We tried to avoid the tourist filled streets and get lost in the tiny streets taking in the Parisian way of life. And it was brilliant.
We visited the Shakespeare and Company bookstore which is the most lovely little bookshop ever and I absolutely loved it, but it was soooo crowded I could barely move inside.
We walked around Saint-Germain and then visited the Centre Pompidou. Walked around again until we sat down for drinks. While having our drinks we found out about the “best Japanese restaurant” in that area… So we had to go there.
We sat at Sapporo, 276 rue st. Honoré and had ramen. Was it the best ramen we had? No. That was in Berlin. This was very very good, but still didn’t make it to the very top. I think we are setting the bar way too high with this Japanese food business…it’s getting hard to find the awesome places. But hey, a place that is still ran by a majority of Japanese staff (the rest was Chinese) and has old manga on the shelves is a great place to be in.
We had great plans after dinner! Walk a little more go to the champs élysées and explore the little shops more…get a few more drinks and something sweet to eat…but it was raining when we got out of Sapporo. So we headed home.
It was a great day overall!
But the best is still yet to come.
