After the Fjadrargljufur canyon, I wanted to stop by the place where it was filmed the Game of Thrones bit for The Wall, so we wondered after Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier. It was the peak of summer when we were there, so obviously there wasn’t as much snow as usual, but it was still freaking amazing! It’s quite humbling to see such sights in person.
Also in Vatnajökull National Park we walked and climbed to take a look at the very unique Svartifoss. This waterfall is surrounded by dark lava hexagonal columns, which served as inspiration for the in the Hallgrímskirkja church in Reykjavík. The walk there is breathtaking.
We then went on to see some more of the glacier.
Do you see the seal’s little head popping out of the water? I could’ve sat there for quite a while just looking at them happily swimming around.
The stop for the day was around Hofn, where we had dinner at Pakkhús, for a nice Icelandic lobster.
