spontaneous mix of photos, food and travels — because life isn't meant to be in order

Can you believe it’s March already?

I went back and forth trying to come up with a good title for this. Then I thought ‘is it seriously March already? How many things did I miss?’ So I went with what you can read above. Original? No. True to what’s happening in my mind? Bloody yes.

Usually I tend to enjoy the first months of the year and wouldn’t mind them going quickly, because that would mean we’re almost at the end of term 2, hence starting term 3 which is the quickest way to say hello to the summer holidays! If you have no clue what I’m talking about, don’t worry, teacher brain. It makes total sense (for me). Truth is these last few weeks went by in a blur, mostly because I was so freaking busy marking student work, planning lessons, and navigating the very blurry waters of AI in education (mostly reading articles and listening to podcasts on the issue).

But I digress…

Here are the photos that marked these past weeks.

The girls have been saving up money to go to Paris for quite a while now. We thought it would be a nice surprise to take them there for this mid-term break. We didn’t tell them however. The story we fed them was that we needed to get up in the middle of the night to take Daddy to the airport because he was off to work. After some “but why?” “Can’t we stay and he goes by uber?” “We just picked him up from the airport a few days ago!” they had to acquiesce. We got up in the dead of night (we wanted to enjoy the 4 days to the max) and I got a picture of the girls from before they knew we would be flying to Paris and another one after, near the gate, before flying. Leonor wouldn’t stop saying how excited she was during the flight. These are the little moments that make it all up, aren’t they? Core memories: locked in.

We had lunch at Le Plomb du Cantal, where we had Truffade and Aligot. Delicious.

M wanted a beret. She said berets are fancy and of course she wanted one. I blame Fancy Nancy.

The girls were super excited to see the Eiffel Tower.

The day after the arrival was spent at Disneyland.

We had a great time at Disney. There were rides and princesses and face painting and lunch at the Pirates restaurant. I felt like we didn’t completely overdo it, we did what we wanted to do without exhausting ourselves, which we are usually guilty of. It was a perfect day indeed.
We still had two days in Paris, so we got up in no hurry and off we went to explore Paris a little more. The girls had another thing on their list to check: the Louvre.

I had never been to the Louvre despite having been to Paris a few times. The lines are always humongous and I always think there are better things to do with my time in one of the most iconic cities in the world. However, out of all of us four, I was the one who wouldn’t have minded staying for just a couple more hours in there. I thought everything was beautiful and would love to stay and just observe the details in some of the paintings.

After the Louvre we walked around and went to see Montmartre and ended our day around Abbesses, eating charcuterie and drinking red wine. We flew the next day to Lisbon, but we still had time to eat at Disney Village and walk around.

We had a lovely time.
