Japan day 6 – Tokyo day 1

This has been quite the interlude between last post and this one. Life happens and work too. Anywho!

This day was not spent entirely in Tokyo. We took our sweet time leaving our little town house in Kyoto. We didn’t want to leave in fact, but we were excited to go back to Tokyo – it was like returning to the mothership after so long.

We got on the train and off we went. We stayed in Shinagawa this time around, because we would be leaving for a couple of days. It was a nightmare to find hotels for us four, by the way, so that’s something to consider if you’re thinking about going as a family with children. Most places would require us to book two rooms, which for us didn’t make any sense. Besides, the girls are at an age that they can easily fit both into a single bed, so we just really needed a double and a single bed in one room….but I digress.

It was amazing to go back to Tokyo. We walked around aimlessly without any agenda and had an early dinner at Eggs n Things in Shibuya. We then walked around a bit more, noticing the changes in the last 5 years or so. It is quite wholesome to recognise beautiful places and seeing what else has changed.

Though it felt a bit heartbreaking to see the new Harajuku station. That was the very first time, back in 2013 where I felt truly in Tokyo, truly in Japan, and every time we stepped on that station, it brought me that same feeling. Now it has completely changed… I guess it’s good in a way. But completely shite in others.

Nevertheless it felt absolutely amazing to be back in Tokyo.
